Macadamia belongs to the family Proteaceae and is native to south-eastern Queensland, Australia where it grows in the wild. Although there are ten species only two (Macadamia integrifolia [smooth-shelled type) and Macadamia tetraphylla [rough-shelled type]) are edible.
